You want pictures?

Well I don't have any right now, so get off my back. See, I got this crazy new camera from work, and we're having some trouble getting to know each other. Sorry. More pictures this weekend...hopefully.

So for now, I want you to picture Kristin at the baby shower they threw for her today at work. She's sitting outside in a decorated courtyard at her office downtown. She's wearing a beautiful pink dress on her little pregnant body and she has a radiant glow on her smiling face. Sodas are flowing, gossip is flying, and cake is being devoured. It's an office baby shower for the ages.

Now I want you to picture me sitting uncomfortably next to her for two hours while thirty of her co-workers judge me. Yeah, I was there for the whole thing. I'm an idiot. I guess it's a tradition for the groom to show up at the end of these things, but with my severe phobia of tardiness, I wound up freaking out over potential traffic and left way to early. Of course there was no traffic and I got there about 10 minutes into it.

I tried to keep myself busy by cleaning up wrapping paper and consolidating gifts, but the girls weren't having it. They had it covered. I was told my job was to "sit there and look handsome". These days that's much easier said than done. But there was no escaping the watchful eyes of the gift-givers, so I took it like a man and sat there as Kristin opened the gifts.

In my short time as a married man, I've found that a good way to temporarily avoid the spotlight in these situations is to pick up any random gift and just start reading the packaging. No one expects any kind of reaction from me when I'm doing this. Today I read about 5 boxes, almost all of them seemed to feature the same diagram of a woman's nipple.

We wound up getting some incredible gifts today. Kristin's boss got us a bassinet and another co-worker gave us a gorgeous blanket she's been knitting since March. Others chipped in for some big stuff and some went the thoughtful homemade route. It's amazing how generous people can be when it comes to baby gifts. If any of you at home has sent us anything and haven't received a thank you card yet, please know that we're very grateful. This whole experience has been so surreal to us and we're so happy to have such great family and friends.

I promise to figure out my new camera this weekend and post a new photo.

Hahaha I am cracking up imagining you sitting there awkwardly shifting your gaze from the breast pump packaging to your beautiful wife to the sea of faces of random people you don't know but want to watch your reaction to every gift they give. Keep in mind they only do showers for the first kid. I remember sitting in front of the crowd at my last baby shower and thinking I was finally done with public present unwrapping and trying to figure out my inlaws' family and friends and look gracious! Yea! Youre almost there! I hope you had a wonderful first mother's day, kristin!
