So it's been a crazy week. Thursday night I had to go to CVS at 3AM to get baby wipes. It turns out wet toilet paper doesn't do the trick with newborns. It tends to stick and clump. Forget the Internet - what did you old people do before baby wipes? Did you use eucalyptus leaves or something? And no 24 hour pharmacies? God, that must have sucked. Between the lack of these fantastic amenities and walking to school 5 miles a day in 3 feet of snow (both ways, of course), you Baby Boomers really did have it rough.
But now you guys have the luxury of sleep - that precious, wonderful feeling of literally not having to move for 8 hours. I, on the other hand, find myself chugging Coke Zero at 10PM every night just so I can stay up for the late night feeding. I used to drink beer, watch SportsCenter catch up on work between the hours of 10PM and 2AM. Now I just get hopped-up on diet soda and stare at the baby monitor for hours on end. It's just that critical not to let Bailey wake up famished at this time because getting her back to sleep can be a very daunting task. So I guess I just have to be a martyr. My life is just so hard ;)
I have an overnight flight to Boston Wednesday for my friend Kev's wedding. I just got back from Boston like a month ago for Sausage's weding, so I'm not looking forward to another weekend running around New England without Kristin and Bailey. Kristin won't have the luxury of having my sister with her this time either, so she has a huge challenge on her hands. I feel bad just thinking about it. She certainly has stepped up and become an amazing Mom. And it's amazing to watch her in action. But she'll have a hard time doing everything without me - especially with the dogs. They're a handful in their own right.
As for Bailey, she's as beautiful and fun as ever. She's smiling like a crazy person and is even starting to laugh (well, it's more of a high-pitched coo, but we'll take it). She's still quite a challenge, but we're finally starting to see some payback. Watching those little smiles and seeing her change every day is so much fun. She's even has eyebrows now! They're very light, which makes us think she may actually end up with lighter hair. It's hard to tell in the pictures, but her hair isn't really as dark as it seems. It's more of a dark brown with light brown tips. Her eyes are still blue/gray, but eye color can take up to nine months to fully come through. Whatever. We don't care. We're very lucky to have such a beautiful baby. We actually feel bad for people with ugly babies.
